Hi David,

YOur AE has both a MAC Address and an Airport ID. The MAC Address is for the ethernet port and the Airport ID is for the wireless address. I may have been unclear with that part before. The Airport ID is the one that you need to make available to the NetGear router when joining wirelessly.

Yes,

I found this and have attempted to use it several times over the past
several days. I also tried assigning an ip to the airport express mac
address in the router because it was there but not assigned and though it
stuck, I still cannot get the express to join my wireless network.

Any Help you can give would be appreciated;. I'm tempted to drop a note to
the folk at netgear.

Hi David,

You wrote: How do you configure the airport express manually? I'm
attempting to do it
wirelessly and just for music so I want it to become part of my
network.

TK: When the Airport Express is selected in the Table, press cmd-l
which will bring up the configuration windows. There are various
panes for you to configure various aspects of the AE. I believe you
have the know-how to do this but if you have problems, let me know.

Hi David,

You wrote: I have a full fledged network here minus any server
goodies but those with

come with systems. I have several devices sharing my netgear
router's
internet connection but for some reason, this one causes them all to
flutter.

TK: Are you attempting to connect your Airport wirelessly using WDS
or using ethernet to connect the Airport to the NetGear and then
simply having the Airport for music streaming? If wirelessly, I've
found that you'll need to do some configuration from the NetGear as
well. The Airport Utility can allow you to connect the Airport
Express wirelessly to the NetGear but the NetGear also has to accept
the Airport Express as a device. This is usually done by MAC Address
somewhere in the NetGear's admin interface. I no longer have a
NetGear so I can't totally remember how this process worked but it can
be done. I normally prefer to do even the configuring of the Airport
Express manually instead of using the Set-up Assistant. This allows
me to set the MAC address and such and many other settings not dealt
with using the Set-up Assistant.

One thing that may be affecting your connectivity just came to mind.
Is your NetGear 802.11N compatible or only G compatible. If it is
only G compatible, you may wish to set your Airport Express to
broadcast using only the G protocol which is accessed in the Wireless
tab of the Airport pane of the Airport Utility.

HTH.
