A few other bits on the Mini and the black verses white notebooks.
First my understanding is the difference between the Mini and Imac is
also the audio and I can't recall exactly, but I thought it was
something to do with the input. Now this may have changed and honestly
I didn't look at the specs recently, but if a Mini were nothing but an
Imac without the screen in every other way, that would be great. I'd
probably purchase one of those just to save a few bucks.
Now, I've never heard or read anywhere where there is a difference
from one color performing any differently than another and unless it
came directly from Apple, I wouldn't believe it to be the case.

Hi all,
Simon wrote: What are your thoughts on the power of Mac mini,
its ability to run both windows and Mac and its capacity to cope
with partitions? What are the drawbacks and such like?
TK: For what you are asking, the Mini would do, but I would go with
2GB of RAM and the faster model.
Simon also asked: Has Mac mini got a CD/DVD driver?
TK: Yes, one model a little fancier than the other though, read
below for details.
Simon continued: Maybe I should et an Imac or another Macbook. I
would welcome your views. Since I have decided to buy another
Mac, I want to make sure it is going to be powerful enough for a
few years to come.
TK: If you're hoping to use it as a Server sort of thing, I
wouldn't get another MacBook. Portable computers are not the best
idea for that sort of situation. The iMac would probably not be
obsolete quite as quick as the Mini but also is considerably more
expensive.
Cody responded: Actually there are 2 moddles of the mac mini,
the 600 one and the 800 one. The only difference is the hard
drive space and the processor. For that simple upgrade it is not
worth the 200 extra imho.
TK: You are mistaken somewhat. The $600 Mini has a smaller HD,
slower processor and only comes with a Combo Drive whereas the next
level Mini comes with the bigger HD, faster processor and a Super
Drive. The difference between the Combo Drive and the Super Drive
is the ability to burn DVDs. If you have no need to burn DVDs, then
by all means, go with the $600 model.
Cody also said: btw just as an fyi, the black macbooks are
actually better than the white ones. Supposedly they are built
more stable and they are just more reliable don't ask, but they
just are. The prices are even different, even if they have the
same hardware.
TK: I, too, am interested in where you've heard this. I've
wondered about the rationale for the extra cost, and actually have a
black one myself, but have never found any documentation that
supports this claim.
