Josh, you are correct. A full screen zoom can be toggled by pressing Command-Option-8 or in the Universal Access pane of system preferences, just as VoiceOver is. Selecting options on that pane also gives you choices for maximum and minimum levels if you frequently use a certain magnification range. There are also options there to have it track the keyboard focus and mouse pointer, much as I am sure you are used to, and to have it smooth text and images. Magnification is changed either by using Command-Option and the plus or minus keys, or by holding the control key and scrolling with the mouse wheel or trackpad. Below the magnification section of Universal Access are display options. They allow you to invert screen colors, set the screen to grayscale, and increase contrast, if that is useful to you. This is all separate from the magnification provided in VoiceOver, which only magnifies the area that currently has focus.
