I have been using tables for spreadsheets for three months and it
works very well.
Text edit works and is accessible as others have said, though your
client might want something more advanced depending on her needs.
Tables costs something like $35, but is well worth the money.

For Word, there's Nisus Writer Pro and OpenOffice which also has a
