I installed it under Windows on a IPod Mini 2nd Generation 4gb Silver that I had way way way back in the days. Frankly, I liked it for what it was, and it was I guess, kind a decent, for it's time, but, I like my new Nano much! and may I repeat: much! much much better. For one, I found that even using the g u i installer, and not doing it in a terminal window, was extremely finnicky. I actually wound up totally screwing the IPod over in the long run. I mean, yeah, I got it installed, and yeah, it even kind a worked, and yeah, I did use it for a short time, but... The other thing I didn't like, was the fact that in the browser, you couldn't have it read things without spelling them. I know there was spell mode, and something else, don't remember, but, even then, it wouldn't read full words.

So for example, you'd hear something like:

t h e, b e A t l e s, dash, h e y, j u d e.mp3

Instead of:

The Beatles - Hey Jude.mp3.

That! in itself, was enough to dr'r'rive? me? Ckr'r'raizy!

I hated it!

I just don't see why they couldn't just make that read. My only assumption is, that they were using pre-recorded voice files in the firmware. So, they probably have a recording in the firmware for all 26 letters, plus all numbers 1 to 9, plus 0, and then all your standard punctuation.

I like the new Nano, as it doesn't work that way. The Nano is actually truely text to speech.

If it says

super caluhh fradga listic, exbie owla doashus, that is exactly! the way it'll say it.

It's not gonna sit here, and go:

s u p e r, c A l e, f r A, g, e, l i s t i s t i c, e x p e A l o d o c i u s.

God, the fact I remembered how to spell that damn word! LOL!

Can you see I got no life? LOL! ROFL!

An'n'nyway, you get my point. Who wants to sit here and hear that, the ladder way? Certainly! not me, thank you very much?

Anyway, dude, I'd say, you could try it? but Ni Madres! For me? Forget it! I'll take my Nano any! day over that.

Chris.
