Chris, your correct, it was some pre-recorded files as best I recall.
I also tried it once, but found it was way squirly and would behave
most oddly. Sometimes it would start reading a menu item and then
suddenly would start screaming in pain. It was interesting.

I just don't see why they couldn't just make that read. My only
assumption is, that they were using pre-recorded voice files in the
firmware. So, they probably have a recording in the firmware for
all 26 letters, plus all numbers 1 to 9, plus 0, and then all your
standard punctuation.
I like the new Nano, as it doesn't work that way. The Nano is
actually truely text to speech.
If it says
super caluhh fradga listic, exbie owla doashus, that is exactly! the
way it'll say it.

God, the fact I remembered how to spell that damn word! LOL!
Can you see I got no life? LOL! ROFL!
An'n'nyway, you get my point. Who wants to sit here and hear that,
the ladder way? Certainly! not me, thank you very much?
Anyway, dude, I'd say, you could try it? but Ni Madres! For me?
Forget it! I'll take my Nano any! day over that.
