just slide it so that it hangs over the edge of the table and then pop the 
top.  did earlier mbs have latches or are you talking about the mbpro?  I 
don't think there's any harm in turning it on its edge, but can't help 
wanting the putter to be still while active.

I find it easier to get the Macbook's latch button pushed in while
holding it on edge. Maybe it's just me.
