I used to work with Macs way, way back in the beginning of the 90-s. I got noticed for my work with a then at least in Sweden alien platform for the blind and got myself a job. My boss said something to me that i think applies to most GUIs and that i think is good knowledge. He said: "To know your applications, explore its menus. Not only do you learn what the app does and where the menu item for it is, but you also learn its shortcut keys at the same time". This has helped me a lot.
