Hello there Estelita, how are you doing?
To get to text edit, do the following.
Make sure your in the finder. You can do this in the following ways.
VO + Shift + D, to go to the desktop. This is control + option +
Shift + D. You can also get to it by holding down command and then
press tab to cycle through applications that are open, just find the
finder application, and let go of command and tab. Either way will
work, personally, I would use VO + Shift + D, and continue with the
directions I have.
Open your applications folder. To quickly do this, hold down command
+ shift, and then press A. This will quickly take you to your
applications folder. You must be in finder for this to work.
Now, in the applications folder, just type T and whatever begins with
T, you will find. You probably do not have any other application
installed with the beginning of the letter T, so you should be brought
to Text Edit. If your not brought to it, just arrow up down, left or
right, and find text edit. You can also continue typing the name of
what your looking for, by typing in a couple more letters of what your
looking for, and you will find what you need.
once your on the Text Edit Icon, just press Command + O, and Text Edit
will be open.
As a side note, to quit applications running, once your in that
application, you can press Command + W, to close out windows
associated with that application, and command + Q qill totally quit
the application all together.
I hope this helps.
Best,
Fonzie though.

Hi Again Dan,
Thanks for letting us all know a little background on yourself and
sorry to hear how you lost your sight but all is not lost!!!
I use Text Eddit instead of using Microsoft Word.
I use Adium instead Of MSN.
I use the Mail program called Mail which comes with the Mac just
like Text Eddit does too.
I use itunes instead of Window Media Player, to listen to music etc.
Hope this helps you again,
best wishes,
Vicki.
