Regarding the Iris pen, how easily are you able to use it? I've been
interested in getting one of these but haven't yet ben able to get my
hands on one to play with to make a final decision. Would it be
difficult to use, as far as lining up the pen with text, especially as
I have no vision whatsoever? I'd guess the actual recognition quality
to be quite good since I'd assume it's using the Read Iris engine.

doing the same as Jacob, scanning with VueScan and OCR with
ReadIris. I also use the IRISPen Executive to identify books and any
other printed matter before deciding whether it's worth scanning
properly or not.
