Plethora indeed and you ar not alone.  One of the reasons for turning off 
jaws or any other screen reader in windows off while working with it when 
you don't need it include what it does to the cursor.  I get so confused by 
it now, I could spit.

   Agreed, as far as cursor nav goes, (and I've said this a plethora
of times before lol!) the Mac cursor movement is no different from how
windows does it in Word or any other text app.  It's just that JFW or
WE changes the reading behavior so it appears to work differently.

   This actually kind of bothers me, as it shelters VI people from
what's actually going on until they get a completely different picture
of things.  NOw, this is obviously just a tiny thing in the grand
scheme as it were, <smile>  but it really does change people's
perceptions.

   Anyway, blah blah blah!  lol!

   As a whole, I thought this review was terrific! and I'd recommend
it to anyone thinking about the Mac, coming from a Windows standpoint.
