Purely imo, used apple hardware is generally a bad deal.
Looking at the prices of apples on ebay, the used ones are indeed
cheaper, but considdering that in the uk the mini costs £400 or £336
if you can find someone that goes to uni, I realy do think its worth
shelling out a tad bit more and getting something new, especially if
something goes wrong on the hardware side.
The only exception to the above that I have come accross was my emac
which cost me £70 including shipping; this came with a g4 1.42, 512mb
of ram and a 80gb drive with all the usuals like optical drive,
keyboard and mouse. So long as you don't get apple sertified ram, the
512's easiely upgradable to 2gb for just shie of £30 so you've got
quite a nice machine for around £100, but the same machine now goes
for around £150 for some reason.
If you are content with not running snow leopard, we should see quite
a big reduction in the g4's and g5's soon due to them not beeing able
to run it.
As a after thought, the ibooks were always the powerbooks little
brother anyway and considdering that it won't be covered with apple
care, i'd really advise against it.
hth.
