Hey thanks, this should be interesting.

Hi Scott
Here's a nice tutorial on how to open the Mini if you've never done
it before:
http://www.methodshop.com/gadgets/tutorials/macmini-ram/index.shtml
I follow almost this exact procedure when I open a Mini, the only
difference is that I use a very small and very thin blade to do it.
I feel around with this very carefully until I find each clip and
pry each clip apart from the case.

I'd sure like to know how to open the Mini. I'd try upgrading the
older G4 we have with a bit more ram. It's a nice box, but a bit
slow and more ram might do the trick. It's only got 512Mb at this
point.

A drive replacement isn't a overly big deal.
Despite the minies beeing quite hard to take apart, i've heard that
they take standard 2.5 drives along with laptop ram, both of which
are
meant to be replaceable by the user.
Plus, if its that old, you'll probably have a 5400 rpm drive so you
should see a noticeable difference if you get a 7200.

At first, I thought that Leopard may have had a corrupted file;
however, I uninstalled it, and reinstalled Tiger. It would start,
then about two or three minutes later, it would reboot. Now I
can't
get to the Software Update, to update all the ones that are
available
for Tiger. Tomorrow I will check all possibilities, including the
worst-case scenarios--i.e. one of my drives having to be
replaced. I
will keep y'all posted on what I find out. Richie Gardenhire,

Exactly what is wrong with it?

Well, my Mac Mini bit the dust today, and now the only thing I
can do
with it is run Tiger on it. Not sure if I want to either sell
it and
use the money to gut a refurbished iBook, which a friend of
mine has
and wants to sell. Iw had been a good machine for me for the
better
part of two years, but I can't use it very much now. In
addition, my
Apple Care for the Mini will no longer cover it. That, having
been
said, I will explore all my options and decide which course I
will
take before too long. Richie Gardenhire, Anchorage, Alaska.

The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a
thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot
possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible
to get at or repair.
