Hi Vicki, Everett and Max and apologies for not getting back to you all sooner.
I have tried all that you have said and still no luck. Today I visited my ISP, BT Internet, web page where a lot of Mac users had left messages concerning their attempts to get Mail to work too and it seems there may be a problem with the SMTP server. I have managed to get a step by step guide to setting up the Mac/Mail with BT and I will let you all know how I progress. Best wishes.
