But if you want to transfer only a selected subset of your customizations, then you need to know which files to copy (and some files need not be copied at all, as they are transient caches or so).

In this case you need a taxonomy of the files or directories and documentation which settings are where. It probably is a worthwhile task to collect this information an make a readable document out of it.

As this does not require a developer, would you be interested in doing this?

i don't have too much free time lately, but this has really interested me, so i took a quick look :).
files in user/registry really is not the most user frendly thing i've seen...

Some statistics:

The OOo (version 1.9.74) configuration schema has:
- ~3500 documented items
- ~1875 of them are properties (settings)

i tried to search for some detailed information on oo.org website, but sort of failed

(am i misunderstanding something or is there something wrong with search facility ?
a) clicking on "Browse all results from <cathegory>" shows me blank search form;
b) it seems that if there is a phrase enclosed in quotes and a single word, search is done in some curious way.
to see what i mean :
search in 'projects'. input "configuration schema" (with quotes).
1 result.
add 'items' (so that all string looks like this :
"configuration schema" items
5 results.
search for a single word "items" (without quotes) - 4 results. seems strange...

ok, back to the topic :)
where should i look for more information ? i checked out utilities project (took a look at Registry Document Format... nasty...), but could not find any clues.

as far as i can tell, catalyst for all this, position storing/remembering, is located in Common.xcu and is named Save.Document.ViewInfo (node-node-prop) =)
