I give you permission to suggest the exact polite wording that
I should use, since you think my email was not polite.
Yes, I used accepted slang terms for "MS Word", referring to it
as "M$ Werd", as well as referring to "Windows" as "Windoze".
The slang terms were used for three reasons --
a. Microsoft doesn't pay my bills, so I'm not going to pay
their bills,
b. I choose to use products that are far better than Microsoft,
including OOo and others,
and
c. I am still unsure as to the real identity of the sender.
Actually, the content of "Kim's" (the "unsatisfied 'experimenter'"'s)
email says that "she" has already decided that OOo is "junk", that "she"
has already spent the money for MS Office and is happy with MS Office,
and that "she" has already deleted OOo and is not ever coming back to OOo.
For "Kim", there is no interest in ever using OOo, just inspiring
more traffic on an OOo list for a product that "she" is not interested
in using ever again.
Therefore, my jibes at their decision to be a "good little M$ clone"
were clearly meant as humor.
My email to "Kim" was formatted very carefully.
1) I asked for "her" to deduce whether "she" sent the email. If not,
I asked "her" to disregard the message. (Therein is your requested
apology.)
2) I explained that I do not represent OOo, nor the list.
3) I explained that I am a happy user of OOo.
As a "happy OOo user,"
4) I explained that "Kim's" assertion that OOo was not Word-
compatible was incorrect.
5) I explained that "Kim's" assertion that OOo could not
create Word-compatible files was incorrect, and
explained how "she" could.
While my email might have combined my sense of humor with my adamant
support for OOo (while intimating a slight disdain for any product
from M$), both of these topics are personal opinions that I do not
feel that I should have to apologize for, ever.
My email clearly included a disclaimer that I didn't represent
the group, nor the OOo product directly. My email was informative
as to how "she" could have used OOo more productively to do what "she"
wanted to do... if, in fact, "she" ever had any interest in using OOo.
I clearly pointed out my feelings that "her" post to the list was
merely to stir things up, and I still feel that "she" is not exactly
who "she" says "she" is, also explaining how "she" could have come to
post to the list using an email account with the name of "Kim", a female
Euro-American name, and a sexless Oriental name.
Peace,
Barry Smith

Please do not do this. There appears to be nothing at all "spoofed"
about the email. If you'd bothered to look at the headers:
<http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=discuss&msgNo=62621&raw=true>
you will see that Kim posted using a valid ip address corresponding to
his/her email address. See the part that says:
Received: from smtp120.sbc.mail.sp1.yahoo.com ([69.147.64.93])
My (polite) recommendation would be that you send an apology to Kim, and
the list. Sending msgs such as yours to an already unsatified
'experimenter' does nothing to enhance OOo in the OP's mind, and I would
imagine that it will only serve to further his/her opinion that OOo
"sucks".
