OOo is taking not only market share, but also mind share. The latter is
what kills MS. MS and its boosters are going all out now to disrupt
that and cause trouble on the lists and forums. Look at Digg, for
example: saturate, diffuse and confuse.

Back when MS was partially a software company, you had the strategy of
embrace, extend, extinguish. Nowadays, MS has gone beyond marketing and
into lobbying. As a result, you get more politically oriented tactics,
like S.D.C.

They're usually here to disrupt.

However, to add my 2cents, I have used and tried many productivity
packages, both standalone and suites. My second to last one was MS
Office. Egregious compatibility problems with other versions of MS
Office and absolutely unacceptably poor stability motivated my to look
around again. I found a few packages, of them OOo met my needs.

On the technical and legal side, support for OpenDocument format is a
real winner. MS is still a no-show there. Also, the UI and functions
are quite good.

Now some years have gone by and OOo is improving even more.
