What sort of account did you try to create?
I have difficulty answering this. You can follow the OO.o Help link to
register to find out.
You don't need an account. You don't need a password. You don't need
to contact Oracle; as far as I know OOo is still supported by the
openoffice.org mail lists.
While all of this is certainly true, Oracle has made it necessary to do
what they call 'create an account' to register. And the web site is
difficult to navigate, in the way I describe.
My inquiry is not into the necessity of registration. I am asking
whether the benefit to the community of users registering are sufficient
for me to fight the barrier I perceive at the Oracle web site.
Remember, I've been using OO.o and registering every update and every
reinstallation with SUN since 1.1. This is the first real problem I have
had.
I'm not disposed to fight an anal web site to register when the reward
to the community is slight for the effort.
Registering should be EASY if there is any benefit to the community or
to Oracle. I was not.
