Announcements:
* Dave - presentation since I'm new. I have an interest in historic
preservation, I am currently involved in an effort to save the keyser
farmstead in Cuyahoga Falls. Over the last few years been
trying to make it more interesting to get younger people involved. What I'm
looking forward to do is to take it to the next level, looking for someone
with skills in robotics to help make a robotic
horse, that would make people excited in history through a different
approach.
** Dave2 - What do you want from us?
**Dave - trying to get a smaller sized horse or pig
** Alex - robotics club on saturday
** Becca - GARC functions out of here on the 2nd saturday's where they
work on robots associated with CVCA

* Philip - I have 2
** Last Saturday was the Akron Art Walk and I wound up being the only
member here for 5 hours, nobody else showed up, June 7th is the next one.
So next time we need to get things running for it, to get
people into SYNHAK. When people come here they need to see stuff happening
instead of looking at static objects. I think we need a much more active
demonstration going on. So I'm setting up a signup
sheet for the next walk. People had no idea what to expect because we
didn't have a paragraph in the papers handed out by the city of Akron. I
want to take over the art walk as far as doing something.
*** Torrie - so that's a really amazing idea, but I'm leaving for San
Francisco thursday but I'm coming back in 2 weeks. Can we meet thursday to
work out a plan
*** Philip - I need people
*** Alex - Hackathon on June 7th for it
*** Becca - We discussed last week to do our hackathon with the Akron Art
Walk so we will have at least something going on.
*** Philip - I appreciate that but we need people to explain what SYNHAK is
and does so we can get people interested.
*** Alex - I'll help you with the handouts if you want to work with me
sometime. With info on what we do, events going on, hackathon
*** Philip - Excellent
** Friend of mine owns Urban Eats, they're personal friends of mine, I
talked to Devin last week that I wanted to do something about the crappy
garage door. So no what I'm going to do is I have a one
man business Patnode Photography so we are going to co-sponsor a jurried
contest, so I'm going to make 11x17 color prints of the front of the
building where people pay $5 to submit a picture with what they
want to see the front door to look like. Winner will get $40 gift card, and
1/3 of the money raised Rest goes to costs. Those who submit designes and
the members vote on the designs. Whoever wins by
the most votes wins.
*** Xander - Only comment I have is that someone would submit one great one
and a bunch of meh ones
*** Philip - we are going to repair the garage door, because it is bleh
*** Becca - is this something we have to get approval by the landlord
*** Philip - Why?
*** Becca - Because it's his property
*** Justin - yes we do
*** Torrie - I will be submitting entries
*** Justin - We need to get approval from the land lord because the lease
says we can't put external signage without prior approval
*** Becca - I think it's a great idea
*** Philip - If we could get it done by the art walk that'd be great
*** Will - are you making a requirement to say SYNHAK on it
*** Xander - I asked for a copy of the lease, for the record

* G - Just one: Akron Civic Hackathon, part of the national day of civic
hacking, list of people making it happen, scheduled MAy 31st - June 1st,
it's a vehicle for managers who have IT Problems
to provide the opprotunity of volunteers to solve the problem. I'm hosting
the event hoping for some press. Please RSVP on meetup if interested

* Andy - Soap box derby race is starting up soon, I went last year it was
really fun, check the website for a list of races

* Torrie - So I started my robotics company full time phrobo.net

* Alex - Doing a monthly hackathon june 7th this will be for the wireless
mesh, I will be providing food. G if you could setup a meetup for that.
It's basically going to be from learning how to build it
to getting it built and benchmarked

* Alex - Sundown rundown I'm doing a pitch there

* Philip - Friday night 7:30 galaxy quest, free popcorn bring your own
liquids

Membership:

* Becca - Confusion about wiliams application, secretary said it's fine, so
we aren't going through the membership process again
** Will - Thumbs up :D
** Xander - Class schedule, enrollment letter to prove you're a student

Name: AJ9
Discussion/Questions:
* Justin - Why do you want to be a member
* AJ9 Really interested in nonprofit develoment

* Justin - any particular member you enjoy the company of
* AJ9 - Justin

* Torrie - what does consensus mean to you
* AJ9 - Have no opnions on that subject

* Philip - What can you contribute to SYNHAK
* AJ9- Graphic designs, media management, communication, fund raising

* Alex - what can synhak do for you?
* AJ9 - don't have a specific cause at the moment, so I thought that this
could be something to do

* Torrie - What does do-ocracy mean to you?
* AJ9 - I have no opinion
* Torrie - So why are you applying for memberhsip which gives you access to
governance
* Aj9 - I'm a member of the community so I feel I should be about to vote
* Torrie - how do we govern
* AJ9 - We don't do good job of governance

* Mike - If you would paint your workbench a color what would it be and why?
* AJ9 - Pink I like pink

* Andy - favorite piece of equipment at the space
* AJ9 - Drillpress

* Steve- Nintendo or Sega?
* AJ9 - SEGA

* Torrie - What does synhak means to you?
* AJ9 - synhak is a community that is very important to me, there are
members who I care a lot about, I don't think I'm going to be able to come
up with an answer to please you

* Xander - What makes you happy?
* AJ9 - Music

* Will - what kind of music
* AJ9 - All kinds

* Torrie - How would you improve synhak
* AJ9 - I would improve synhak through the democratic process the
membership determins
* Torrie - How would you use that to improve synhak
* AJ9 - Finances, would assist with management of

* Torrie - Um... idea I've been rolling around in my head for a whil, other
hackerspace every month the whole membership gets together, and pay their
bills, talk about allocating money towards monthly
expenditures, and do it as a community. What problems do you percieve?
* AJ9 - I decline to respond
* Torrie - Applying for membership for access to the tools to shape synhak?

* Dave - Opinion as a guest regarding membership: Been involved in history
and preservation and belong to a number of organizations, unfortunately we
get a bad rap, we are considered white glove. We're
not inclusive, we're exclusive, tell people hands off don't do this. You
want to get as many memebrs as you can, being more inclusive. Take off the
white gloves, take off the attitude, share ideas get
together.

* Torrie - I want to figure out what AJ9's intent of becoming a member is.

* Philip - Public record that I support her membership, and if possible I
would block the block, we need confident, reliable, experiecnced, educated
people to help run synhak. We need people like her
who can help run the space. If we can approve a 7 year old who can't read
the by laws, yet block AJ9 is ridiculous.

* Mike - Do you have any experience in conflict resolution
* AJ9 - Yes I do, in college was a mediator for the student government
organization

* Devin - I see you bring a productive member of the space, and that's what
we need.

* Torrie - what was the method used for conflict resolution?
* AJ9 - A lot of the strategies we used, followed roberts rules of order,
focused using I and you statements, no abusive statements

* Andy - What's your favorite drink?
* AJ9 - bloody mary

* Torrie - So what you said kind of sounds like communication techniques,
those are good ideas so like conflict resolution if 2 people do have a
problems likely due to lack of good communication, what
would the first step be?
* AJ9 - why would I make 2 people talk to eachother if they don't want to
talk to eachother if it isn't outwardly, and then it isn't a problem. And
I'm not sure this is relevant to my membership application.
* Becca - we should use this in discussion in CWG meeting.
* Torrie - would she be willing to come to a meeting?
* AJ9 - I would be willing to come if I believed that it was not a trap.

* Linda - Been to 2 meetings, thinking about joining this organization,
thinking what the hell is going on here?
* AJ9 - Don't worry I doubt yours would be like this
* Linda - Can't believe this about someone who is willing to help

* Justin - motion to vote
* Mike - seconded
* Steve - third

Proposals:

Key Application

Will Schafer

Have 24 hour access to synhak because synhak isn't as available as I'd like
it to be, and be more open to the public

*Will - I want it to be unlocked more, and think of the building as being
an asset, and more use of the asset

* Mike - Do you intend to rob us or jack up a vehicle in the space?

* Will - No and No.

* Xander - Do you think you'd feel comfortable giving a tour around synhak,
where people ask questions how everything works, and that's something I
found that a lot of people didn't know how to do?
* Will - shakes head yes over and over, I think I know enough to give a new
person and over-view

* Chris N. - SYNHAK is kind of worthless without a key, so just you being
here, doesn't matter when it is, it's going to be open for those who don't
have a key.

* Torrie - unfortunate fact that our front door is it's only a dead bolt
and not let anyone in, just pray it's not a fire.

* Philip - if you get a key can you commit to a time during the week that
isn't covered now?
* Will - in the process of getting a summer job so after I get a job I can
commit.

* Justin - don't lock the door while you're in here, that's against fire
code. Just FYI

Concensus next week!

Discussion:

* Xander - Community working group
If you want to make an official proposal, but we wouldn't need a proposal I
don't think. I dind't see anyone disagreeing with that.

* Chris N. - Get ken burns

* Xander - Is going to regularly come to synhak

* Becca - Anyone have a problem with this

* Torrie - I kind of read most of the proposal, but I think a first step
before jumping in, would be some kind of meeting outside of tuesday for the
working group.

* Steve - Provide a summary next tuesday meeting

* Torrie - some other spaces are experimenting with called fractal working
groups, where CWG is one working group within the space, the space as a
whole on a tuesday is the SYNHAK working group. Each of
those little groups, meeting independantly with own mailing lists, where
they would discuss things on their own, and once they decide that it
affects others, and bring it up in the main tuesday meeting.
It would help shorten these issues.

* Steve - All for that

* Philip - read some of the emails, is it open to memeber/non-members?

* Becca - that's up to the group

Torrie - two things: to expand on fractal workoing group: each would have
its own decision process the default being consensus. it would be self
organizing and would be up to each org. The CWG parts: for a while
we wanted to start a NEOhio hackerspace association. Each hackerspace sends
one person to represent the hackerspace and solve problems. I'm just
throwing it out for advice.

Phillip - arent the CWG to help synhak grow? what is CWG?

Torrie - Don't misinterpret me. However it runs, it doesn't have to be like
that.

Xander - Right now my goal is conflict resoultion.

Justin - Motion to table discussion.

Xander - Seconds motion.

Discussion tabled

Mod - Any comment on discussion of you Torrie?

Torrie - I've been wanting to talk to people about this for a long time. I
don't know what the prob is. i've been very open ablout this. All I've been
getting is bad comments. (People saying I'm wrong).
I feel these are valid concerns and no one has been able to address them. I
still maintain my same comments. I don't rash decisons are appropriate
until we have CWG. I want CWG to figure out these problems
instead of knee jerlk reactions. We all need to just calm down and I'm
looking forward to vacation. I'm glad I'm not treasurer. i'll go on
suspension if you guys want me to. That's cool, I want a CWG to fi
figure out the solutioin.

Justin - You want to fixz thingsa. my imprression is that you have wanted
to fix things and then others bring up concerns about your actiuons and you
have not addressed them. It's troubling because the
space prides itself on everything being everyones responsibbility. You
reject comments. Steve and Andy experienced conflict issues. It's a concern
that youve created these rifts in the community.

Steve - Several points: I've noticed you continuously say youre open to
issues. Every time people try to resolve, you make personal attacks. You do
it over and over again. It's unexcellent and you don't care.
Yes I get CWG is a supported idea and I dont think it falls uder that. As
soon as someone disagrees with you it happens again. You come up with
excuses to hate them.

Devin - You said pitch forks and torches are rash. youre the only person
whos's created removal from office proposals. I dont see how you still
stick to your guns.

Torrie - I want to see where I'm coming from. I really hate brining it up.
Back in Nov or Dec, those racks are an unresolved issue. There was no
discussion or meeting minutes. nothing happended. I was told
was signed and had to deal with it. Synhak was under liability for whatever
happensed to those racks. Issues were ignored because we were doing
something nice. I'm the most vocal person about something.
It wasnt until I pointed it out that the negative liability issues. I was
told by the Champion that everyone was OK except for one person. I brought
up concerns and they were not addressed; they were ignored.
I was ignored when I asked for a sublease.

Becca - Everyone here is aware. We are not discussing the rack issue.

Torrie - I undeestand.I'm trying to show where I'm coming from.

Becca - Can yuou wrap it up?

Torrie - Again: I was ignored and ignotred and it wasnt til I brought up
serious legal issues but no single person thought to look at it. I have
legitamate concerns but no one has replied.
No one has told me why I should as Treasurer be forced to deal with extra
concerns. These are not valid.

Becca - Is that pretty much a summation?

Torrie - Yes.

Becca - Anyone want to address direct comment?

AJ9 -

Justin - I can put this to bed.

Steve - You should have to deal with it because it was your job.

 Paul - If I was Torrie I'd feel attacked. I'm not hearing "this is what
happneded and this is what I want to do." If you have unresolved issues
it's your fault. The majority of comments have been bad or covertly bad
 but not moving forward. Nothing positive will hapopoen untill all parties
aggree. Principles before personalities. I'm lacking that this evening. Why
would anyone show up if people are going to get put
 in that meeting. Everyone's got hurt feelings: action as opposed to words.
Torrie:"If you aren't happy with me I'm going to bail." I havent seen any
positive tonight.

 Steve - This is about removal of Torrie proposal. She's got out and
attacked people repeatedly.

 Paul - No one here are social butterflies. When Philip was talking about
the young boy: is Torrie a law-breaker? No. yes, Torrie may have attacked
people but that's between that person in Torrie. For
 God's sake, have a vote for or against a person.

 Steve - Public attacks are not something people should have to deal with.

 Torrie - Steve I'm sorry can we talk about this?

 Xander - des[pite unexcellence in the past, be excellent in the future.

 Torrie - How can we be productive?

 Xander - Make a proposal or have discussion in private.

 Steve - I get the whole 1-1 thing but it occured in a group and needs to
be addressed in a group.

 Torrie - Has there been any call for mediation? Obviously I don't know
what i've done wrong.

 Steve - Yes you do. How can you say it's not offensive when I'm not a
transphobe? I have nothing against LGBT.

 Steve leaves.

 Justin - Summary: Steve is upset because he feels the other party isnt
listening and isnt usuing sense.

 Phillip - I'd like to as a group sit down with binding arbitration. I want
to see people contribute. I dont want people to leave. SO do something!

 Paul - As a nonmember, I'd volunteer my services over hiring a real
mediator. Cause this is group therapy. I've got not no dog in this fight.

 Torrie - I will not be back until the 22.

 Justin - I want discuss problems with the website.

 Devin - There were also signs hung on the door and website graffitti.

 Justin - It is from a residential account. It points to a TDFisher web
account.

 Torrie - What evidence do you have?

 Devin - *reads sign about 24/7 surveillance*

 Torrie - Have you considered others are upset?

  - We want to make sure whoever is doing that knows it is bad.

  Xander - If you're doing that please stop.

  Meeting is adhurned by Xander
