If I'm not mistaken flex will only work with flash player 9 and that could
be part of your problem.

Subject: [AFFUG Discuss] Flash 4 .swf vs. Flash 9 .swf Mystery

Here's one for you Flash guru's out there. I'm
building an interactive map in flex and I'm using .swf images. I built a
few .swf images by downloading a flash trial, importing the image into CS3
Flash
Professional and then exporting the image as a .swf object. I don't have
any timelines, it's only a simple 1 frame image. Now my trial version has
expired and we are using Corel to export a .swf image. The absolute only
difference between the original swf and the corel swf is that the original swf
requires flash player 9, the corel swf requires flash player 4. The
problem is that when I change the context menu items for the image in flex, the
context menu comes up correctly for the corel image but the context menu event
doesn't fire. It never gets to my handle event function. The
original swf worked fine. Is there a problem with my code in that I'm not
handling a Flash 4 .swf correctly or is this an issue with flash 4 swf vs.
flash 9 swf themselves?
