Ok -- just to let y'all know, we did find a solution... Figured I'd post it here for your future use, if you ever run into the same problem.
If you're running CF9 on WinServer2008 with IIS 7, you MUST install the 9.0.1 update, and it's *highly* recommended that you install the 9.0.1 Cumulative Hotfix 1 as well (and, of course, install them in that order, following the instructions from Adobe.) You will be UNABLE to install the 9.0.1 update UNLESS you disable the following roles in your Server Manager: IIS 6 WMI Compatiblity, IIS 6 Scripting Tools, and IIS 6 Management Console. IIS 6 Management Compatibility and IIS 6 Metabase Compatibility CAN remain active IF you want them, but the other three MUST be disabled in order for the 9.0.1 update to go through. And I recommend not re-enabling them after that update goes through, since there's no apparent need for 'em at that point. (Frankly there's no apparent need for any of those IIS 6 roles after the 9.0.1 update, but our system is working well now, and I'm not going to mess with it. LOL) So, once we did all that, everything was good, and there was no need to re-format and re-install everything from scratch -- http://localhost/flex2gateway now returns a blank page (like it's supposed to) instead of the 500 NullPointerException error... Everything's good. Thanks for all the suggestions, but I don't think anyone else has ever gone through this, so no one here (or anywhere on Google, for that matter) seemed to have the right answers. File this one for future reference, though, because I'm sure as Win2008 and IIS 7 becomes more prevalent, someone will need these answers, and will save themselves a BIG headache. :-) L.
