I was thinking this, too, as I recently became aware of LMS capability
to do this.  So far, I have not been able to figure out how to register
an app such that it shows up in the available list of choices in the
default apps area of Win 10.  I've not yet found any documentation on
this at all, so I'm not sure how and if it will work.  But I plan on
looking into it and seeing if there is something useful that can be
done.
