On IETF lists your mail is from [email protected], an addresss which is doubtless now bitrotting in people's address books. This hack only works because of custom code that depends on details of the IETF's mail setup. Everywhere else people put the list address into the From line which has problems we all know about. If you don't do that the pain is more at the other end since DMARC rejects are interpreted as bounces and the recipients get bounced off the lists.
