I take your point, but IETF's job is interoperability. We've never been
very interested in people's assertions about what they think other people
should do, even when the assertions are often sensible.
Compare that with the move to https everywhere. Having to get certificates and
encrypting and decrypting all stuff is certainly not an interoperability
improvement.
Instead during the present discussion there is a tendency to prioritize
interoperability w.r.t. domain owners "interests", as if that interest wasn't
security.
