Phil,

I don't own a virus but on my Nova the unison setting is a special
Oscillator type which basically doubles the saw oscillator (The nova only
does it on the saw).. This means that you get a super thickened sound!!

I don't know about the polyphony side of things but I suspect it doesn't
affect it...

I'm pretty sure it's done at the synthesis stage..

Nick

"ps. quick virus related question, whats the unison mode all about. seems to
be a way to get a thicker sound by layering notes up automatically, but i
thought thats what chorus does.... whats the difference??? my guess would be
that unison works in terms of midi notes (ie. before the synthesis stage)
and hence uses up polyphony. and chorus works on the sound itself (ie. post
synthesis) and doesnt affect polyphony."
