i've dealt with the same issues. the majority of the stuff i master is non-electronic so its a bit different. old school masterers absolutely hate the hot levels of todays releseases because they are totally void of all acoustic dynamics. but electronic is a bit different. everything put out is as hot as possible because you can feel that punch in a club, plus the dj might have to boost the gain on your vinyl so much that he runs out gain and still can't match the ultrahigh levels of the other releases.
back to the software.. i use t-racks first because it has a more natural sounding eq and compression, and raises the overall volume and presence of a mix. then i use the L2 to boost the overall level to its max. i almost always use the 'final master' preset because that just pumps the level all the way up, which is fine bacause i already go the sound i wanted from t-racks. check out the izotope ozone plugin. pretty tough to figure out, but much closer to what the pro's use (multiband compression, limiter, exciters, stereo imaging...) later ayan At 09:35 AM 1/3/2002 -0800, you wrote: >I'm tackling these same issues right now, with a lot >of the same plugins and software.
