I do occassionally send an unmastered version to the label - but that's only to save me two hours mixing time for Double to say, '..the drop needs to be heavier...' or whatever and for me to have to mix it again (as i haven't got a digital desk to save levels, eq, etc)...
Tracks will always be mastered in some way before going to be pressed. And I know thats the way that a lot of the big labels do it. The other thing to think about is that if anyone wants to cut the tune onto dub, it has to be as loud and sound as good as it possibly can therefore has to have had some kind of mastering in order to achieve that...
