Hi I was a bit turned off the Tannoys because of the hardness they seem to exhibit and the freq range isn't so good- my mate had them and they were okay, but not as detailed as the Spirits (another friend had them too, who had been producing local bands for about 6yrs, so he knew a couple of things).I checked the SOS reviews of Tannoys, Absolute Zeros and the Absolute 2s and the 2s came out tops everytime, so unless you can afford the next ones up at around 400 (Genelecs and HHBs etc) then i rekon the 2s are the best, plus I saw them hidden away on the cover of the Droppin Science Reissues album, so unless it was someone elses studio, Danny Breaks is a good enough recommendation for me....
I totally agree on the JV1080 and Novation plan, its the best way i think - plus it leaves 4 slots in the Roland for the quality Orchestral/FX expansion boards etc... I've fully cracked my sampler now, so with what i have learnt in programming i should be able to do some damage on the machines above. Just bought Wavesurgeon and a SCSI card/cable for the sample transfer so it gets even better for the breaks. At last, floppies can go to hell and i can now attempt Studio Pressure style breaks...he,he Laters Dan -----Original Message----- From: Scott Bradley [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 07 January 2002 05:35 To: Drum & Bass Arena Discussion List Subject: [dnb-prod] Re: Emu Audity If you already have a pile of stuff, why not get a 2nd hand Nova 1 for 400 quid and a JV1080 2nd hand for around 400 quid. That'll give you an extra 22 Channels of Analogue sounds, strings pads, piano's, flutes and guitars etc ? New kit is not always needed. Though I must say z plane filters have been tempting but I've not hammered my A4000 enough to justify it and I'm sure I can get the sound I want, just need to work it out. Anyway took the plunge and bought some Absolute 2's. Basically I wanted Tannoy Reveal Actives and I thought Digital Village in Birmingham had them, so I set off at 4:15 and drove through the 40 miles through the fog and finally found the shop with 5 mins to spare, guess what no Tannoy actives or passives (could have sworn they said they had them on the phone). So it was like well I've not rushed all that way for nothing, so I took some Absolute 2's and a Samson Servo 170, they said I could return them if I didn't like them. To be honest I like them, I can hear things in the mix so much easier. I'm quite interested in hearing some Tannoy's to find out why they are supposed to be so much better. Does anyone own any ?
