I was
speaking to Danny Flytronix about all this a while ago... (He made the Jungle
Warfare series and loads of other stuff)..
He was
saying that he put a lot of effort into making loops that sound really tight but
that can easily be cut up and played around with...
He
reckoned that the thing that pissed him off the most was when he heard his loops
on TV ads and they had done NOTHING to them at all!!!
Just
use the sequenced sections as they were on the CD!!!

I'm in
total agreement... Use whatever the fuck samples you want... Just make
sure you play with them enough to create something
original...

yeah, i know it seems like Im contradicting myself, but my point is that if your going to go to sample cds for breaks, using hip hop ones is the best technique- what you end up with is breaks that sound like "new" old-school breaks. Better advice is to save your money and go online to download hip hop breaks- much better than hitting a drum n bass site and ending up with the breaks everyone else does (classics aside). Im not against sample cds on the whole, just uncreative and blind use of them. If your using a Reinforced sample cd to make Reinforced-style music, well then your not contributing much to the art form now, are you? Your just dead weight, or a hobbyist at best.. ;)
What kind of irks me about the whole issue tho is that the guys at Reinforced KNOW this. What do you think those guys would ever do if they recieved a demo with one of their sounds taken straight off the CD? They'd fuckin laugh at the naivety and lack of creativity displayed, that's what. ---
