I am looking into getting a few things myself. Firstly look into a midi keyboard like a midiman oxygen8 or a miditech midistudio or something of that effect. Additionally look into a mixing console a great one is a Mackie 1602VLZ-Pro. Also if you have the cash to spend try getting a sampler (emu ultra e6400 (drool), akai s2000, etc.). As far as a PC there will be a huge debate, best things i can tell you is get a decent sound card and if you are building it yourself try getting memory that is ECC. If you need help building a PC check out www.prorec.com they have a great recipe for an amd thunderbird that rack mounts...i'll probably be putting that together. Also if it is in your budget you need monitors (speakers). Now the same website reviewed like about 10 of them, all self powered (recommended) and came up with the best one being the mackie hr82 (i htink it was..). But check the website it would help.
