my friend has the oxygen8, and it's pretty cool, but it looks too small for
me, so i'm thinking of this one,
http://www.evolution.co.uk/moreinfo/keyboards/pro49c.htm - the evolution
249c. it runs on usb, and 4 octaves, something like 8 different velocity
curves (nice for recording notes live if you're a shitty player), and most
importantly, 12 knobs!!! this'll speed everything up as soon as i get it...
www.digitalaudioworks.com has it for $200 and free shipping.

once that's taken care of, i'm thinking of getting a doepfer pocket dial,
since (in my opinion) endless encoders are better than absolute position
knobs (but at $200 for the keyboard with 12 of them, you can't beat that).

next, for a top-notch mixer, i'm absolutely in love with the new behringer
ddx3216 mixer. a digital mixer just lets you run connections in creative
ways, and built-in effects would be nice (on-board compression, and having a
dbx266 on the outside, i think that'll cover just about every possible
situation).

and i agree, with the monitors, i'm gonna take my time and get the best i
can. if you're thinking of tables (which you should, i think production and
dj'ing are unseparable, they both influence each other), definitely go with
techs.

now that i've finally decided that i'm serious about music making, i'm gonna
hafta do it right. if you think you're serious about making music too,
definitely don't settle for anything less, cause eventually you'll end up
getting rid of it and buying the better equipment anyway.

I am looking into getting a few things myself. Firstly look into a midi
keyboard like a midiman oxygen8 or a miditech midistudio or something of
that effect. Additionally look into a mixing console a great one is a Mackie
1602VLZ-Pro. Also if you have the cash to spend try getting a sampler (emu
ultra e6400 (drool), akai s2000, etc.). As far as a PC there will be a huge
debate, best things i can tell you is get a decent sound card and if you are
building it yourself try getting memory that is ECC. If you need help
building a PC check out www.prorec.com they have a great recipe for an amd
thunderbird that rack mounts...i'll probably be putting that together. Also
if it is in your budget you need monitors (speakers). Now the same website
reviewed like about 10 of them, all self powered (recommended) and came up
with the best one being the mackie hr82 (i htink it was..). But check the
website it would help.

any comments from anyone else?
trk.
