you have to know what your motherboard can handle.  Every motherboard will tell you how much of a proccessor upgrade your motherboard can take.  You'll find this info in Either  a manual that came with the comp, or in the comp under system properties, or check the website and look up the pc and find out the specs there.  If you do install the proccessor read on how to do it FIRST, they are a very sensitive peice of equipment, not like a NIC card or sound card for example.
