I think you have to change something by a percentage for it not to be
considered plagiarist here. I may be wrong.

However I wouldn't worry about this unless you really intend to release
these commercially for your own profit. For instance I've remixed Halcyon
and On and On by Orbital, and Breathe by Telepopmusik, and I don't intend to
sell them at all. If I decided to though, I could just do it as a white
label bootleg thing under a diff name. There's ways to get around all the
copyright stuff.

I dunno if ethics come to play that much but if you're doing white labels
it's more about releasing the tune than about getting paid innit? So in that
light I think it'd be ok.

Best leave the final answer to more informed heads on the list though, this
is just my take. respect.

Subject: [dnb-prod] Copyright/sampling issues

hey there.
ive been away from the list for a while and thats cos i took the brilliant
advice and went away and worked so hard in my bedroom studio.
anyway, on the issues of sampling.
if u sample a tune but its been messed using plug ins etc do u still have to
give credit to the original artist? how much do u usually have to pay to
clear the samples
and .. how do u get in touch with the people? u need a load of written stuff
to say its cleared and little unsigned producers like me cant get that done.
also if its from an "obscure" tune and u cant find the original artist, what
do you do?
confusing issue here for me. builidin up tunes is hard work.
id just like to know how much can u "rip" (by that i mean sample cos i cant
get a sample to change sound form in soundforge - maybe a few tips on that)
off a tune?
