I was under the impression that after a certaion amount of time, some music
becomes public domain? Also, I know if the publisher that owns the copyright
goes bust, doesn't the music become public domain also? A friend of mine
recently did the Adamski - Killer bootleg and the bootleg of Papua New
Guinea and as has already been mentioned, he's got away with it to a certain
extent because they're white labels not attributed to an artist. He could
never release them fully without getting nailed by Adamski & FSOL.

as i understand things (i am not a layer) you cannot sample without
clearing, period. realistically speaking, i wouldnt worry about it unless
you were mass distributing and/or selling your tune. i believe that its
mostly the label's job to help you clear the samples if nessesary anyhow,
depending on how big the label is.
