Hi!

I was just thinking about mirroring the mod_perl docs here in Austria
(in fact, I was thinking about asking our SysAdmin if we have some
bandwith left ..), but:

* do we want official or unofficial mirrors

* if yes, we should add a place somewhere to link to them. I guess the
best place would be to add a new top-level docset called "Mirrors"
(somewhere near the end of the menu) and list all mirrors there (and
maybe add some info/links to info on how to set up a mirror)

If we want mirrors, I'll add those items ...

We have discussed this issue before. My opinion is that we don't want any official mirrors. The reason: Search the web for the mod_perl guide. You will find dozens of "mirrors" which are very very outdated and include erroneous information. Making official mirrors, meaning that you have to monitor those mirrors and make sure that they get updated.

Notwithstanding the issues below, one way to check up on mirrors
is to do something like CPAN does - keep a file on the master
site that is touch()ed every day, and then have a script run
daily that grabs this file from the mirrors and checks the
timestamp - if this indicates a mirror that is older than x days,
send a friendly reminder, or just delete the site from the mirror
list.

thanks Randy, we already have such a file, it's /index.html. The DocSet features a flexible dependencies control, so only things that change trigger updates in the current docset and all its ancestors. So if any file changes /index.html is always going to be redone.

so if anybody is up to take the responsibility of setting this up and do this for the years (:) to come, that sounds good!
