Content over style, sure. But given the sheer volume of documentation a user of OpenSolaris may have to wade through at one time or another, consistency helps, and IMO that includes style.
Collaborative editing tools (or wikis) may allow some to produce content and others to refine the style. But I think that's no excuse not to read the style guide and make a reasonable effort to comply (although I don't know that I'd reject something because the author hadn't gotten around to that yet). Reading the style guide takes what, a couple hours? Yeah, some folks are very busy, but I bet they could fit that in before too many days went by. Maybe that's just me. I'd rather _I_ controlled my words, or at the very least, if someone edited them, they convinced me why it was an improvement, so I could learn from them and do better next time. And of course I'll read almost anything, even troll bait and toothpaste tubes; looking something up in a dictionary without getting sidetracked can be a real challenge some days.
