Agreed.

I also think there's a bit of a misconception here. Nobody is forcing 
anyone to read the OSG before contributing, the same as nobody forced me 
to pour through the SMF code before my expressing my opinion in the forum.

However, if someone wants to make a more concerted effort, the OSG is 
there to help them make that effort as professional and translatable as 
possible. To continue the above analogy, if you want to contribute code 
or bug fixes to the SMF code, there's an expectation that you've gone 
through the code base and grok it.

Blogs and wikis soften the "rules" somewhat, but I think it is 
reasonable to expect the current PDF's written by Sun to stick around 
for quite some time, and hopefully be added to by non-Sun OS.o members. 
There should be some expectation of professionalism attempted in a 
150-page PDF. This same expectation should be valid when submitting a 
"bug patch" to the Sun documentation.
