I have recently looked at this. You can get wxwidgets with unicode compiled 
easily built if you use the combination of the cbe (common build environment) 
which is used to build JDS and the spec-extra files which contains the spec 
files to build wxwidgets. If you want to try this I can give you more the 
details. (It maybe also easier to build wxwidgets and XaraLX with g++ first)

You will later find, as I have that XaraLX uses some calls to 
malloc_usable_size. This seems to be very Linux specific (undocumented & 
unsupported), which I am still looking at how to get around.

Maybe we can pool resources to see if we can get this ported.
