I'm blushing.... :) Anyways, I would first suspect a bad rebuild and an incorrectly seated ring. If you had that bad of an oil buildup on the plug, you definately have blow-by going on, so that ring is probably not seated correctly (or cracked off completely -- not good).
I can't remember off the top of my head if the 2.7 is interference or not. He may have just used substandard valves in the rebuild, and one of them cracked off. If the valve indeed struck the piston, it will be somewhat obvious once the heads are pulled again (since you're going to have to have that done to get this repaired). Normally I'd suggest a new mechanic, but this guy at minimum owes you a complete rebuild first. Hopefully he agreed to redo it, did he? Cheers. -DP -----Original Message----- From: Nathan E.
