I say go for it, it's never too late (other opinions welcome). The 1988 ES has the 3.2L motor, but even on a 2.7L with a lot of miles on it, synthetic won't do any harm and will probably make a start on cleaning out whatever sludge there is in the engine. Change the oil frequently at first, though. Whatever comes out, you want to DRAIN out. Synthetic will probably turn black with dissolved gum, varnish and sludge quite rapidly; but it's better in the oil where it can be filtered and drained out. You're getting close to the timing belt interval, though. I think it's still 110K miles, as it was on the 3.5L in the 93-97 models. When that's being done, have the water pump changed too. A lot of the labor is the same; just don't let 'em add together the flat rate manual rates without allowing for that! -GP ------------------------ Yahoo!
