Accelerated engine wear? I don't think anyone is suggesting removing the therm for a long period. Just to test. You are not going to experience accelerated engine wear from running the car a handful of times without a therm. Although I do agree with Paul's statement that you might want to just go ahead and replace the therm. Only for the reason that's it's pretty cold outside(depending on which region you're in) So it might be worth $15 just to only have to do it once. But running your car a few times without a therm will not hurt it. You might not have good heat in the cabin, but it's a free test.
