It's up to the OP to decide how much engine wear caused by operation at low
temperatures is tolerable.  .010" wear after 50 hours of operation...you
could easily see 50 hours operation in a month's time if commuting in a
large city.  The O.P. would do well to consider that if his engine is > 100K
miles as it stands, he might not have .010" of extra meat on his cylinder
bores he can afford to lose.


But running your car a few times without a therm will

...and it's worth what you're paying for it.  It does little or nothing to
eliminate the thermostat as the cause of the problem that couldn't be done
by just idling the engine in the driveway for 20 minutes and then observing
the temperature of the upper radiator hose.
