My donut on the underside of the Caravan goes flat after about a year. YMMV
Car & Driver once did a test of a donut spare on a Corvette. Although the tread wore off quickly, it only had a marginal effect on the overall handling of the car -- the other three tires really do most of the work, if you think about it. One time I lived in an apartment complex where another resident had a donut on his ZX-2 for months. I guess he was just too broke to go get another tire. He never died in a flaming wreck...at least, not before I moved out. Still, I'd only drive on a donut long enough to get to someplace to have the real tire repaired.
