Andrew-the 3.5 has a belt-i changed mine at 90k-think the factory called
for 100k change-i was not about to take a chance as the 3.5 is an interference
engine--myself i have done a lot of research and found that a lot of the rap
that these cars get are because of dis honest repair shops selling you repairs
that are not needed and once a car gets a rep. for a certain item the shops
jump
on it -one sure way to stop this is to ask for a written pre-estimate at which
point the dis honest guys will either say -well we need to look into this a
little more-or tell you that they will not do the writing part-i have no
problem
turning in a dis-honest shop to the DMV.
I was really not responding to your reply -but to the comment on the
intrepid in general.-as i belong to a lot of groups and it is very easy to drop
out with out asking for help
Wished i could help you out on that -but have no experience with the
2.7-and
i have been a member for a long time -but my interest lies in the itself and
not
so much the engine--cheers  -suzukimx

miles)
should I change it?

Hey, Ozzietron and suzukimx45, thanks for your info on this and thank you very
much for the time your took to respond to my posting.

I really don't want to offend anyone here, but I'm just trying to get at
whether
the timing chain going on the 2.7 as a group is really an endemic problem
because that's what I need to make my decision on, not on whether one person
has
had this happen. Mine hasn't broken and I need to assess the likelihood of it
happening and that decision has to be based on how prevalent this problem is in
2.7's. If we made decisions on getting stuff changed based on whether one
person
had suffered any particular problem our cars would be in the garage all the
time, right? Also, cars can get an unwarranted overall reputation based on what
happened to a few rightly infuriated users, we all know that.

So maybe long time users of the forum might have seen a disproportionate number
of postings along the lines that "my 2.7's timing chain broke!"

Andrew
