All good advice- it seems Old Erich Weston may not be as accurate as he
should be with the back plate and rod adjustment and this also can
contribute to rod problems AND the Aluminium channel at the front that rods
bolt to- it can and has on us cracked AFTER Erich upgraded to 8mm rods

When you get an engine right you know you have it right. tech Bul 44 has
much good advice and tech bul 53 is worth a read (max climb temp should be
"below 180degC" and the formula for hot day conditions (38degC) is

measured temp +(38-0.002 x pressure altitude) -outside air temp

Also if using a VDO CHT gauge it is best the cold junction can be in the
cockpit and if not then feed a jet of cool air to cold junction. In early
days of Jabiru they did not realise this and had serious errors in CHT (if
cold junction is raised 10deg C then CHT will read 10degC lower and you are
unaware of the high CHT)

gee the rain is heavy
