Do now Sauer told us to never use full synthetic oil as it does not cope with Avgas lead. He said to me on phone whatever oil you use in your car use in our engine and so I just use Magnatec 10W40 and no problems. He did say 1/2 way thru life (1600hrs TBO) you may care to change up a grade to say 20W50
I do know years ago we had real proms with a L1700falke with high temps but prob was solved when we used a Shell oil designed for a Ford GTO V8 racing oil think it was 20W70 - a very sticky oil - it dropped temps from over 100degC to 87degC max. So all oils ain't oils A bit off topic but I am on a list with Jabiru Engines and for engines it is becoming clear analogue EGT is OK as you can see the 50degF drop off peak at full power but the only way with CHT is DIGITAL- To re certify Falke with Jabiru Dafydd Llwellyn forced us to spend 2 years chasing high CHT on LH REAR - ie meeting his requirement for no increasing temperatures at full power level flight The other thing I can say what ever temp rises first (oil or CHT) then you must chase that one. When I fitted a new L200 to falke Limbach required me to add oil cooler for AUS use. I could not use the conventional VW fliter up top (Ihave a geared starter motor and it is too long) so Nigel organised a G109B in line oil cooler which I mounted down under the prop with a 5cm lip on the bottom - it is so good that summer or winter I must add a piece of plastic cardboard with holes to get oil temp UP!!! I am reluctant to experiment with oils unless the maker recommends something. Rotax have the gears which I gather "chops up the oil" in the gears and thus use a motorcycle oil.
