Hi Ralph,

If you've a meter and the odd bit of wire, perhaps from Arduino
development, then

Tutorial: Suspect a Dead PSU? How to be sure
     http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic55506.html

may be of use. Hardware's not my forte but it looks like reasonable
advice.

There's also
http://www.techrepublic.com/article/learn-to-re-fuse-a-power-supply/1053277
but you may not feel comfortable giving that a go.

Out of curiosity, did this stop working around the time of the
Bournemouth floods?

Thanks for the link but I don't have the equipment for the first one and I certainly don't feel comfortable with re-fusing a power supply...

The power issues first started a few weeks ago I think but I'm not actually sure what the issues were exactly because I don't use that computer and my partner hadn't mentioned it to me until today, when it was impossible to actually boot it (the computer was last booted successfully yesterday).

Sean, thanks for suggesting to use another power lead, I hadn't thought about it but unfortunately, it still didn't work :-(

Anyway, I have now taken up Terry on his kind offer. This PSU was changed 5 years ago and last time, the same thing happened, which is why I am fairly confident it is the PSU, though of course you can never be 100% sure until you actually test or change the unit itself.
