Hi Tim,
Out of interest, are there (no doubt pricey) bits of test kit that
will induce the dialed-up load?
There probably is Ralph but I think were entering into the realms of
expensive and serious testing kit which probably requires a degree of
something or other to operate....................
Yes, I agree, probably too pricey for your one-off need, that's why I
only asked out of interest and not as a solution for you. Perhaps
companies that would find them handy, like UPS makers, can easily knock
up their own as required so there's no market.
Cheers, Ralph.
Stage lighting equipment would probably do, along with a meter.
(Perhaps an Arduino outputting DMX-512 and measuring the current used
if you wanted to be accurate about it.)
The dimmer packs I've used can dim 10 Amps per channel, in 256 dimming
steps, and the follow-spots have their own dimmer, along with a 1.2kW
bulb.
Either way that is a lot of light and heat you'll be generating... Any
thoughts as to where you'll put it? :)
I picked up the meter this afternoon, I have a 500w spot light so I will
have a play with that and maybe get another 500w spot light to give me a
1000w to test with.
Thanks for all the suggestions and information guys
