In Kubuntu 11.10, which includes LibreOffice 3.4.3, the app starts in a touch
over 10 secs on my dual-core AMD 64 bit machine (it's not fast by modern
standards being several years old now). I don't have the QuickStarter
running.

According to the LibreOffice Help:

Enable systray Quickstarter
Mark this check box if you want LibreOffice to enable Quickstart. This option
is available if the Quickstart module has been installed.
Hope that helps.

BTW. I've changed the Subject to relate to the discussion!
