Back in 2018, I purchased a soft copy of Pro Git by Scott Chacon and Ben
Straub and installed it in Calibre. At around the same time I installed
some free books that I obtained online; some novels and some
non-fiction. Recently I tried to open Pro Git to reference something,
but all I got is a window entitled 'Loading book - ebook viewer' which
then closes silently with no sign of the book. I've tried re-installing
the book from my eBooks folder, but I fear that folder is actually
created by Calibre and therefore part of the problem. I've also tried
to restore the database from within Calibre.
The book is a free download on Kindle and it works there, but the tools
in Calibre are superior to what I have in my Kindle or the online viewer.
Looking at the problem further, I find that none of the books that I
purchased / downloaded previously are opening. ;-( Are there any
Calibre experts out there? If I install books from scratch they work,
but all my original titles appear to be broken. Unfortunately, I cannot
remember where I obtained many of these books.
